Daniel Haverman Participates in the Boca Raton News Tort Symposium

On January 23, 2007, BNI Member Daniel Haverman of the Haverman Law Firm participated in a special Tort Symposium for the Boca News. Daniel advised the attendees that over the last several decades, the Florida Legislature has approved broad restrictions on the rights of Florida citizens to seek justice in the courts. Most of these restrictions provide partial or full immunity to the corporate and medical industries. He noted that private businesses have been granted a privileged legal position, leaving citizens and consumers as a distinct disadvantage. The overall effect has been to foster a lack of professional and personal responsibility among the corporate community. Meanwhile, Florida’s consumers and citizens have increasingly fewer and fewer opportunities to seek justice and protection under Florida law when they are harmed by the resulting irresponsible corporate behavior. As a result, when immune corporations or medical providers cause injury or death, it is not the responsible party who must bear the full cost of the victim’s medical bills and lost wages. It is instead the Florida taxpayer who must foot the bill.

Daniel told the group that it is the Trial Lawyers who fight the efforts of big corporations and their CEOs seeking to evade responsibility. When corporations and their CEOs act irresponsibly by delaying or refusing to pay fair and just insurance claims, producing unsafe products, polluting our environment or swindling their employees, the only resort for Americans to hold them accountable is in our courts.

He concluded his remarks by stating that Plaintiffs’ attorneys are committed to strengthening the civil justice system so that deserving individuals can get justice and hold wrongdoers accountable. All Floridians benefit when the individuals they represent have a fair chance to get justice through our civil justice system.

Paul Revere, Viral Marketing and Web 2.0

232 years ago Paul Revere alarmed the countryside on his way to Concord and started a revolution. At this week's BNI meeting, chapter member Nancy Suchoff compared that simple act of Viral Marketing to the revolution taking place on the Internet. The static websites everyone knew from the last decade are losing ground to Blogs and interactive, two-way member driven sites.

Nancy demonstrated the power of the Blog by the success she had with client the BioTrainer. By offering a popular Blog the opportunity to use the product in an experiment she read about in the New York Times, traffic to the BioTrainer website exploded and sales increased.

As the chapter's Creative Concierge(sm), Nancy helps businesses and professionals market themselves via branding, website design and Blog development. She designs logos, collateral materials and sales promotion programs. In BNI since 2000, Nancy meets most of her clients through referrals.

Children's Drawing Analysis with Billie Eizenberg, PSY

Children’s drawings have a deep and wide meaning. The child’s expression in a drawing is freer; it lacks boundaries and is less restricted. Any choice of color or form in a drawing is usually affected more by the child’s physical, mental, and emotional state rather then by his/her need to mimic, copy, or respond to orders. That is why it is important to pay attention even to scribbles that appear at the edge of a page. Drawing arises from an inner state of mind in a child rather than from a response to an outside expectation by others.

Usually we collect 3 or 4 drawings that were done on different occasions and days.

Some of the elements that we need to pay attention to when analyzing a painting are:

  • A sudden regression in the ability to draw
  • Any extreme expression
  • The use of one color only along with a refusal to use other colors
  • A weak pressure of the pencil on page while drawing
  • The placement of the objects on a page
  • Repetitive forms on a page
  • A partial drawing, or the drawing of only one side of a figure

These are only some examples of the vast area of drawing analysis. When looking at a child’s drawing of a character figure, from the way he/she draw certain parts of the body, one can begin to identify the stressors that affect the child. A child’s drawing of a house, or anything that is related to a home, mirrors his perception of the relationships among the members of his family. The drawing of a flying bird, a cloud in the sky, a butterfly, or even a simple scribble on a page can bring to light a child’s emotional and physical state.

Billie Eizenberg, PSY received her Ph.D. from Hebrew University in Israel and is a licensed therapist. She provides psychological services to support groups, individual adults, couples, children and their families through her private practice in Boca Raton.
